APEC Schools Launches The APEC Program for Excellence in Student Leadership (APEX-SL)
APEC Schools has identified the deliberate cultivation of student leadership as an important part of fulfilling APEC Schools’ Mission to prepare students for higher education and better career opportunities. To do this, the APEC Program for Excellence in Student Leadership (APEX-SL) was designed and launched with the assistance of amazing youth leadership consultants and volunteers from the Ayala Young Leaders Alumni Association (AYLAA), Ayala Corporation Resources Group and Synergy (AC Corp) and the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).
APEX-SL is a ten-month blended learning program that will instill 21st century leadership values and develop the project management skills of the APEC Schools’ Student Council leaders. The program was launched with a levelling-off workshop on September 1, 2018 held in APEC Schools – Sta. Rita for the Student Council Advisers and Deputy Advisers of all APEC Schools branches. It was an occasion to orient them on the structure and partnerships needed to effectively the 21st century leadership values and project management skills of the Student Council officers. An important result of the workshop was to strengthen the participants’ conviction on their roles as Mentors for a new generation of student leaders.
APEX-SL held its first workshop for the two hundred ten Student Council officers and Deputy Advisers on September 22, 2018 at the National Teachers College. Prepared by an online session and preparatory readings, the participants tackled topics like Servant Leadership and Community Needs Awareness in various interactive activities led by the youth leadership consultants. The coming months will see the continuing series of workshops supported by online consultations to further empower student leaders and encourage collaboration among the different stakeholders in each APEC branch.
